Met Gala 2018: Best Dressed

In honor of the annual Met Gala in New York City last night, I wanted to share some of my favorite red carpet looks. The theme of this year's event was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination".  

In my opinion, the three best of the night were Ariana Grande, Blake Lively and Rihanna.

For her first Met Gala, Ariana wore a gown that was designed by Vera Wang featuring Michelangelo's "The Last Judgement" painting from the Sistine Chapel.

Blake Lively always dresses so elegantly year after year at the Met Gala and I think this year was her best yet. 

When it comes to the Met Gala, you can always count on Rihanna to deliver an iconic look that is always right on theme. Her bejeweled pope-inspired outfit was so unique and was really such a stand out outfit from the night.

 I loved so many of the looks from last night, but I wanted to highlight a few that really stood out for me with the Catholicism theme.

Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt // Newbury Comics Exclusive Rainbow Vinyl

Tragic Kingdom is the hit breakthrough album by  No Doubt , released in 1995 to widespread critical acclaim. Blending a mix of pop, punk, rock and ska, it was a groundbreaking album for the music landscape of the mid-90's and instantly became a timeless classic. It was the band's third album together, which differed quite a bit from their first two lesser-known records, partly because of the interpersonal drama within the lives of the members at the time. For the first time, No Doubt's music was mainly written from the perspective of the band's frontwoman  Gwen Stefani . This album was just the start of Gwen becoming the major force in pop music that she was for much of the next decade to follow. SAFIYA NYGAARD x COLOURPOP COLLECTION REVIEW 🦇♥

For my first post of  the new year, I wanted to share my thoughts on one of my favorite makeup releases, the Safiya Nygaard x Colourpop collection ! Safiya is one of my favorite YouTubers and Colourpop is my favorite makeup brand, so this is a really exciting collaboration!  Safiya consistently makes a variety of really high quality and interesting videos that mainly focus on beauty and fashion. I admire how much time and research she puts into what she does, all of the work that is put into these videos really shows in the finished product. If you haven't watched her channel before, I really can't recommend it enough!  In August 2017, she started a series called " bad makeup science ", which is the basis of this new Colourpop lipstick collection. There are 6 lipstick shades that correlate with a shade she created in one of her videos. You can check out the playlist of videos that inspired her collection here . Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves // Album Review

Deeper Well  by Kacey Musgraves sounds like the first blossoming of spring after a long, cold winter. An aspect that shines the most within this music is her talent for sweet and simple songwriting. Every song is very rooted in nature and uses vivid imagery to paint such a stunning, honest and reflective portrait of this current phase of her life. The production is very stripped-back on most of these tracks, with the focus mainly on her vocals and lyricism. This is among her most introspective work yet, chronicling her inner-most thoughts and emotions from where she last left off in 2021 with  star-crossed . She worked on this album primarily in New York City at Electric Lady Studios , which is an environment that played into her wanting to make a softer, more subdued album this time.
