My Favorite Albums of 2018

Happy New Year! For my first post of the year, I'm going to be sharing my favorite albums of 2018. So many of my favorite artists released music this year and I discovered several new musicians as well - so I'm very excited to share them with you! I've been looking forward to writing this post all year and I have loved curating this list throughout 2018. I hope you enjoy reading it!

sweetener // Ariana Grande

The most anticipated album of 2018 for me was Sweetener by Ariana Grande. I love all of her albums so much, but this is my favorite. I can see that it wasn't made in the way her other albums were - it feels more genuine and complete in comparison to her past releases. Sweetener shows how much she has grown as a person and as a musician over the past two years. I absolutely love every single song on this album that its hard to even pick my favorites.

My favorite songs:
blazed feat. Pharrell Williams
R.E.M
God is a woman
no tears left to cry
everytime
goodnight n go
get well soon

A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships // The 1975

A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships is another album that I looked forward to all year. The 1975 is one of my all time favorite bands and this is a great representation of who they are. Their lyrics are so personal and honest, while also being culturally relevant to the times we live in today. They have so many important underlying messages that most artists these days don't write/sing about, which sets them apart from a lot of other pop music today.

My favorite songs:
TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME
Love It If We Made It
I Like America & America Likes Me
Sincerity Is Scary
It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)
I Couldn't Be More In Love

Youngblood // 5 Seconds of Summer

5SOS has been one of my favorite bands since 2014 and I have loved seeing how far their music has come over the years. Youngblood shows so much growth and maturity compared to their first 2 albums, while also incorporating parts of their older style into it. I went to their Meet You There Tour a few months ago and this album sounded even better live! That was my fourth time seeing 5SOS and it was the best one I've been to so far. It seems that they have found what their signature sound is with Youngblood and I can't wait to see what else they release in the future!

My favorite songs:
Youngblood
Lie To Me
Moving Along
If Walls Could Talk
Meet You There

Camila // Camila Cabello

Camila's debut album feels very authentic to who she is and is a great introduction to her career as a solo artist. I wasn't much of a fan of Fifth Harmony, but when Camila went solo her music was so much different than what I thought it would be. I don't know exactly what it is, but it has really let her true talent shine through - both vocally and with her songwriting abilities. This album came out in the beginning of 2018 and it has been on repeat ever since. She has been one of my favorite and most listened-to artists of the year - I can't wait to hear more music from her!

My favorite songs:
Never Be the Same
All These Years
She Loves Control
Havana
Inside Out
Real Friends

Shawn Mendes // Shawn Mendes

I have been a fan of Shawn Mendes for a while and this is by far his best, and most personal, album he's released so far. I said this before with others I mentioned in this post, but his music has grown so much in the past few years. His voice sounds more mature and feels like he really found who he is musically.

My favorite songs:
Like To Be You feat. Julia Michaels
Lost In Japan
Why
Youth feat. Khalid
Mutual
When You're Ready

Yesterday's Tomorrow Night // Harry Hudson

In my opinion, Harry Hudson is an incredibly underrated artist who I hope gets more recognition in 2019. His sound is a mix between pop, folk and rock, which is a group of genres that fit really well together for him. He's overcome a lot in his life and his strength shows in his music. I've been non-stop listening to this album for the past few months!

My favorite songs:
The Legend Of The Yellow Rose
Criminal
Cry For Love
Kelsey
Yellow Lights
Gone

Make My Bed // King Princess

Another artist who is very underrated is King Princess. I first heard of her song "1950" when Harry Styles posted about it earlier in the year and I've loved every song she's released since. She has such a unique sound and is someone who I believe will be a prominent figure in the future of pop music.

My favorite songs:
Upper West Side
Holy
1950

A Star Is Born Soundtrack // Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper

A Star Is Born was my favorite movie in 2018, a big part of that is because of this amazing soundtrack. A beautiful story of hope, love, and heartbreak is told through the music. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper made a great duo in this movie and it wouldn't have been the same if it wasn't for them in it.

My favorite songs:
La Vie En Rose
Maybe It's Time
Shallow
Always Remember Us This Way
Is That Alright?
