In today's post I'm going to be sharing all of my favorite red carpet moments from the 2020 Oscar's & some of the standout moments from the show! Enjoy! ♡

When it comes to the red carpet, there were so many glamorous looks from some of my favorite actors and actresses, like Margot Robbie, Gal Gadot, Mindy Kaling, Leonardo DiCaprio, and more. One of the most notable moments fashion-wise was Natalie Portman, who wore a gold and black Dior gown with a cape embroidered with the names of all of the female directors who weren't nominated by the Academy this year. Not only was it a beautiful dress, but it also subtly acknowledged those who deserved more recognition. Natalie Portman is an activist for so many important causes, so I love that she used her platform on one of the biggest nights in Hollywood to speak out about this issue. Lack of diversity and inclusivity is something the Oscars has a very long history of, which is something I hope we start to finally see progress in for the show (and many others) next year.

The biggest winner of the night was Parasite, which won Best Picture, Director, Screenplay and International Feature. It made history by being the first foreign-language movie to win Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay as well. I actually haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm definitely going to be watching it this week since I've heard rave reviews about it! If you've seen it, let me know what you thought of it!

Brad Pitt won for Best Supporting Actor as Cliff Booth in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - which was surprisingly his first Oscar for acting (in 2013, he won for the Production of 12 Years A Slave). Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, and the rest of the cast's performances made Once Upon A Time In Hollywood into something unforgettable. Barbara Lang and Nancy Haigh also won for Best Production Design & Set Design, which was so well deserved since so much work went into temporarily transforming Hollywood back to the way it was in 1969. The city is ever-changing and developing, so what they were able to do to make it feel so authentic and nostalgic feeling was really incredible. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was definitely my favorite movie of 2019, and also one of my all time favorites, so I was happy to see it win!

Another well-deserved award was for Joaquin Phoenix as Best Actor in Joker, which was also his first Oscar. He completely transformed, both physically and mentally, into the character of the Joker which made the whole experience of watching this movie so much more memorable and unlike anything I've seen. Hildur Guðnadóttir also won for Best Orignal Score, which played such an integral part in the story and made it feel so immersive. I loved that it took on a different perspective of a character that is always seen as the typical villain in all of the adaptations. It showed a more modern and humanized version of the classic character with a culturally relevant message that anyone would be able to take something from. Joaquin Phoenix also had a powerful acceptance speech on the need for change in many aspects of our lives both individually and collectively as a society, as well as the importance of second chances. Throughout the show, there were also a few really great performances - my favorite being Idina Menzel, joined by nine other voice actors who portray Elsa around the world, doing a special rendition of "Into The Unknown" from Frozen 2. Each actress sang a different line of the song in their language. Denmark, Germany, Japan, Latin America, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain and Thailand were represented. It was such a moving performance that truly represented how universally uniting music is.

I also loved Billie Eilish and Finneas' cover of "Yesterday" by The Beatles during the In Memoriam segment of the show. I was hoping they would perform their new song for the upcoming James Bond movie, but this was still a really beautiful performance. I've mentioned Billie and Finneas a few times before in my recent posts about the 2020 Grammys & my favorite albums of 2019 / the decade, but I am always so amazed by how much they have accomplished at such a young age and in such a short period of time. It's crazy to think that Billie just turned 18 and is already so widely known and respected to be performing at the Oscars.
